Queen Mary University of London’s Barts Medical School uses a range of criteria to assess candidates for interview. Applicants who meet the following are selected for an interview based on a weighted score:
The weighted score may comprise a combination of UCAT score and UCAS tariff of the entry qualifications, either predicted or achieved.
The personal statement does not form part of the assessment for interview selection at Barts. It is instead used to support the candidate during the interview process, but it is not scored.
The Barts interview consists of an online panel made up of two senior academic or clinical staff members, a medical student, and sometimes a lay selector. The following characteristics are evaluated during the interview:
A-Level resits are only considered from applicants who are protected under the Equality and Diversity Act of 2010. Candidates must email smdadmissions@qmul.ac.uk by 1st September of the application year, detailing their reason.
UCAT scores are used to shortlist applicants for interview, with a cutoff score for each year. For 2025, the minimum cutoff is 2,670.
The interview consists of an online panel with two academic/clinical staff members, a medical student, and sometimes a lay selector. It evaluates characteristics like motivation, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.
The personal statement is not scored for interview selection but is considered as part of the interview process to understand your motivation and work experience.

You need A*AA at A-Level, including Biology/Chemistry and another science. GCSEs must include Biology, Chemistry, Maths, and English at grades 7/6 or higher.
