Hull York Medical School uses a four-stage selection process:
Applications are reviewed to ensure that the minimum academic requirements are met.
Applicants are ranked based on the following criteria, making up a total of 100 points:
Important: SJT Band 4 applicants will be rejected.
Shortlisted applicants are invited to interview, where interview performance will be assessed.
Overall interview score and contextual data are used to make the final offers.
The personal statement is not scored but is reviewed. It may be taken into account during borderline applications or selection decisions. Applicants may be asked about claims made in the personal statement during the interview process, so it’s important to read it beforehand.
The Hull York Medical School interview consists of several parts:
UCAT scores are weighted and form part of the overall selection process. The UCAT score counts for 35% of your final score.
The interview consists of several parts, including a group exercise, mini-interviews, a student station, and an individual scenario station. The total interview score is based on your performance across all stations.
The personal statement is not scored but is reviewed. It may be used to differentiate between applicants if there is a tie or to verify claims made during the interview.
You need AAA at A-Level, including Biology and Chemistry, and at least Grade 6/B in English Language and Maths at GCSE. For SQA, AAAAB in S5 and BB at Advanced Higher in S6.
A-Level resits are accepted from students who achieved BBB or higher in the first sitting. GCSE resits are allowed to meet the entry requirement.
