Selection Process

Exeter University uses a weighted system to assign an Exeter score for applicants:

  • UCAT: 25%
  • Academic Achievement: 75% (based on A-Level and GCSE performance)

The Exeter score is calculated, and applicants with the highest scores are invited to interview.

  • Cutoff Exeter score for interview: 94 (for 2024/2025 entry)
  • Cutoff in 2023/2024: 95

Personal Statement

The personal statement and UCAS reference are not read for evidence of mitigating circumstances. However, they may still be considered as part of the overall application review.

    • Average UCAT for interview: 2,752
    • Minimum UCAT for interview: 1,820
  • 2023:
    • Average UCAT for interview: 2,766
    • Minimum UCAT for interview: 1,940
  • 2024:

    • Minimum UCAT for interview: 2,050

The Interview

Exeter uses Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs) to assess non-academic qualities such as:

  • Communication skills
  • Reflectiveness
  • Empathy
  • Suitability for medicine

Your interview performance will ultimately determine whether or not you receive an offer.

Academic Requirements

  • A-Levels: The typical offer is A*AA, including A in Biology and A in Chemistry.
  • GCSEs: At least Grade 6/B in English Language is required to be eligible to apply.

A-Level resits are accepted.
